Student Spotlight: Sarah Moore

Just a month after taking One Month HTML, Sarah, a Graphic Designer, was able to leave her old job and move into an interactive design position. She told us that having this class gave her to confidence to have the intelligent conversations she was craving and start making the right moves for her career. Sometimes learning the ropes of a new language can set you on a new course track. To date, her One Month journey includes HTML and Rails, and she's charting her work in the direction of UI/UX, something she wasn't comfortable doing before taking the class. The biggest learning for her? Immediately after taking the HTML course, she was able to build an efficient, attractive site for her design firm. 

About her educational path, Sarah says "I 100% guarantee that I got a better education from this course than I would have gotten in the classroom." She enjoys the experience of watching and doing a lot more than just sitting in a classroom. "The best way to learn is to do," she told us, "which is why One Month is so great. You watch, you do, you repeat. It's the best way to make things stick."

One thing in particular that has kept her stimulated while taking the classes is our emphasis on community and resourcefulness — in addition to the course, we provide resources for how to dig in and figure out things on yourself. Understanding Bootstrap, for example, is like having a toolkit in her back pocket: “If I really need to make a form, how do I get this code together in a night? Bootstap is great for that.” 

What's next?

Revamping her own portfolio site! Now that Sarah has some development experience under her belt, she's having a lot of fun going back through her website and redesigning it with the experience of the user in mind, not just from the perspective of a designer.
