David Hurley
Canada
Web Developer
This time last year, Toronto native David Hurley was working in business development at a software startup, with a dream of breaking out onto his own. He tried to get into an incubator to jumpstart his first web app, but things didn’t go as planned. Throughout the process, he took a few left turns getting the app off the ground (including hiring a developer from Craigslist). David was stalled because the app didn’t look the way he wanted it to. He took a step back, enrolled in One Month Rails, began to build the app himself and said “Hey, I can do this!” A few months later, he quit his job at the software company. Something that started as a hobby has given David the confidence to build his own startup.
Now David works for a big agency and spends nights and weekends working with other developers and an up and coming Rails-based app called #getpaid. He plans to get a better understanding of Stripe payment processing and continue to Growhack his startup.
