525,600 Reasons to Project Manage.

My project management career started early: It began the night I saw RENT.

Stick with me here.

When I saw how all the lights and sets and costumes and people came together to make something more, I was hooked. I wanted to do that. That love of the larger picture (and a knack for being able to bring it all together) has lead me from theater to marketing to tech -- and many roads in between.

The road hasn’t always been easy. Despite working on large scale projects for some of the biggest companies out there, it would still bother me that I didn’t have formal training in my field. My finals involved stage combat and mime, not gantt charts and work breakdown structures! But the more projects I worked on, the more I realized that all my work -- on stage or off -- involved solving problems. It didn’t matter if that problem was a tricky transition from scene four or a too-tight timeline for a website turnaround.

As a result, I value real-world, hands-on learning experiences in my teaching. Rather than teaching towards a certification, I aim to give students tools and techniques they can apply right away, no matter what kinds of projects they’re working on. In One Month Project Management, I’ll help you lay the groundwork to get started managing your projects more effectively. You’ll learn how to get projects done on time, on spec, and under budget, how to conquer scope creep, and manage risk. Oh, and also a thing or two about cakes.

See you in class!
