Excuse me... hello! I'm Chris, the instructor for One Month JavaScript.

Why should you learn JavaScript? Ok, I know what it feels like to sit where you are right now - because I went through the same experience when I taught myself how to code 12 years ago. At the time I was a music major, and didn’t have any background in computers at all. Computer Science scared the hell out of me! But I knew that if I could learn, then I could bring my ideas to life more quickly and cheaply.

JavaScript is the best programming language to learn right now because 100% of websites use JavaScript. Want to make a Ruby on Rails site? You'll also use JavaScript! Want to make a Python site? Yes, you'll also use JavaScript. Node, React, C++? It doesn't matter which language we talk about, they all pair up with JavaScript to create a website.

So, JavaScript is important. Ok what else?

In this class, you'll learn JavaScript by actually getting hands-on and making projects. This isn't some "let's talk about computer sciencey falsely grammar binary machine code" slow-moving jargon class. No, no, no. We're building projects: In week 2 you'll build a GIF search engine. In week 3, we'll search the web for music. And in week 4, you'll make an information visualization using API data to graph charts from a database. Real world stuff!

The way I like to teach is "I do. We do. You do." I'll show you not only how to build the projects, but where to look when you're on your own. The hardest parts about learning to code are having the motivation to stick with it, and having the confidence to build something on your own. And that’s exactly why I created this class.

In this 4 week course, you'll put together 4 projects that you can use in your portfolio. All I ask from you is a minimum of 3 hours a week. And by the end of the course you’ll be coding by yourself without any of my help.

Best of luck on your journey!
